Philip Mai is a Senior Researcher and Co-Director of the Social Media Lab at Toronto Metropolitan University, and co-founder of the International Conference on Social Media and Society. His research explores how people use social media, focusing on misinformation and disinformation, AI-generated deepfakes, foreign interference, conspiracy theories, online toxicity, and digital political transparency. His work is widely cited in academic publications and featured in national and international media. Philip also develops research tools and dashboards used globally by students and scholars to study online discourse and participation. The thread that connects all of his work is transparency. He holds a Master’s in International Relations and a Juris Doctorate from Syracuse University.
